Museveni Directs NRM MPs to Combat Corruption and Enhance Service Delivery

President Yoweri Museveni has called upon NRM legislators to sharpen their focus on overseeing government initiatives and actively combat corruption that hampers service delivery. Addressing the NRM Parliamentary Caucus at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the President emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of ordinary Ugandans and advancing the party’s agenda for socioeconomic transformation.

President Museveni specifically warned against corrupt practices within constituencies, urging MPs to expose officials who undermine government programs. He pointed to troubling reports of District Service Commission officials allegedly selling jobs and instances where officials involved in the Parish Development Model (PDM) solicit bribes from beneficiaries. The President reiterated that the PDM’s aim is to uplift households from poverty, not to serve as a source of illicit enrichment for officials.

Furthermore, the President directed MPs to increase their monitoring of public health facilities. This includes scrutinizing the attendance of medical staff and ensuring the proper utilization of medicines. He indicated that the government is contemplating dismissing consistently absent doctors from public health institutions and replacing them with dedicated personnel.

To address existing staffing shortages and improve healthcare access, the government is accelerating the deployment of intern doctors and enhancing their compensation. President Museveni also stressed the need for MPs to ensure that medicines supplied to health facilities reach the intended recipients, as the government strengthens measures against theft and misuse. He underscored that accountability in healthcare is crucial for enhancing services and rebuilding public trust.

Concluding his address, President Museveni reminded the NRM MPs that the party’s enduring political strength hinges on its capacity to meet citizens’ demands, improve livelihoods, and foster sustainable development. He urged them to maintain discipline, remain people-focused, and adhere to NRM’s ideological principles in their legislative and oversight duties.
