Museveni and NRM MPs Pledge United Front Against Corruption and Poor Service Delivery

President Yoweri Museveni has issued a strong warning to corrupt officials and those absent from their posts, declaring they will be dismissed and replaced by eager young graduates.

During a recent meeting with the ruling NRM party’s parliamentary caucus, President Museveni highlighted the critical issue of drug theft in health facilities, where essential medicines are allegedly being diverted, forcing patients to purchase them from private pharmacies. He vowed to personally investigate these shortcomings.

The NRM caucus outlined eleven resolutions aimed at advancing the party and the nation. A key focus is the war on corruption, particularly concerning the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds. The President specifically mentioned areas like Pakwach, Maracha, Iganga, and Buwambo where allegations of PDM fund misuse have surfaced.

He urged Members of Parliament and local leaders to actively monitor the PDM, expose any diversions, and ensure beneficiaries receive the intended support. The President also decried the alleged corruption in the recruitment of local government workers, citing an instance where a government job reportedly cost Shs10 million in Kibale District.

He tasked MPs to oversee recruitment processes, emphasizing that government employment should be based on merit, not financial capacity. The caucus resolutions also include staunch support for strategic government programs in defense, security, infrastructure, health, and education, alongside a commitment to integrity in electoral processes, both within the party and nationally.

Furthermore, the MPs pledged to support value addition, internal markets, regional integration, and to examine public school fees to propose solutions. The caucus also resolved to back Ambassador Olara Otunnu’s bid for the UN Secretary-General position.
