Arthur Lukowe, the LC III Chairperson for Kapeeka Sub-county, has urged newly elected LC II chairpersons in Nakaseke District to transcend political rivalries and focus on the collective development of their communities. Lukowe’s remarks came during a recent assembly where these local leaders, many of whom were elected unopposed, convened to establish committees for coordinating parish-level activities.
He stressed that disunity and conflict among leaders often hinder progress and impede the successful implementation of essential government programs. “Many areas have failed to develop because some leaders engage in conflicts and fail to cooperate with their colleagues at different levels. I urge you to avoid such conflicts and work together for the development of your communities,” Lukowe stated.
Cooperation among elected officials, he explained, is fundamental to promoting good governance and ensuring that development initiatives and government schemes effectively reach the intended beneficiaries, thereby enhancing livelihoods. This collaborative spirit is seen as crucial for maximizing the impact of programs like the Parish Development Model.
Dirisa Lubega, one of the newly elected LC II chairpersons, acknowledged his new role and appealed for continued support and guidance from the residents who elected him. “I am new in this position, so I ask the people who elected me to continue advising and supporting me. This will help us work together and serve our community better,” Lubega commented.
Other newly elected leaders expressed their commitment to improving service delivery and addressing local challenges. Residents, in turn, called for increased lobbying for government projects that can boost household incomes and accelerate overall development. They also highlighted the need for enhanced security, noting that current insecurity issues are undermining the effectiveness of development programs and preventing beneficiaries from fully accessing benefits meant to improve their economic standing.
