Nina Roz Advocates for Mindful Social Media Engagement Among Youth

Ugandan singer Nina Roz, whose real name is Nina Kakunda, has issued a strong appeal to the nation’s youth, urging them to embrace responsible social media practices. She highlighted the pervasive influence of online platforms and cautioned against the prevalent misuse by certain individuals.

Roz expressed concern over a segment of social media users who deliberately spread falsehoods, twist public figures’ statements, and create unnecessary controversies. She implored young people to be discerning about the content they consume and the interactions they engage in online, stressing the importance of truthfulness and constructive contribution to national discourse.

“There is a section of individuals who want to spoil and use social media the wrong way. But I urge the fellow youth to be keen and observant of such individuals with such characters. I beg we be very useful and truthful in this nation,” Nina Roz stated.

The singer further encouraged users to leverage their social media presence for positive engagement rather than resorting to trolling, insults, or demeaning others. She believes that the youth are instrumental in shaping the online environment and should strive to make it a space for meaningful dialogue and personal growth.

“We run social media, so I call upon everyone to use it meaningfully. We should avoid those who want to use it to troll and belittle others,” she added.

These remarks come at a time when concerns about the proliferation of fake news and online attacks are on the rise in Uganda, as social media continues to be a dominant arena for public discussion and entertainment.
