President Yoweri Museveni has charged three recently appointed ministers with bolstering oversight and accountability across government agencies. The directive aims to vigorously combat corruption and inefficiency that have plagued public service delivery.

Presiding over the swearing-in ceremony at State House Entebbe, Museveni congratulated Adonia Ayebare (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Shartsi Kutesa Musherure (State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in charge of Microfinance), and Juma Witonze (State Minister for Internal Affairs). He urged them to make the eradication of graft and waste a central part of their mandate.

“I urge them to focus on eliminating corruption and inefficiency in Government through proper supervision and accountability,” President Museveni stated.

The President also touched upon the sensitive issue of dual citizenship. He noted that while the policy was introduced partly due to Uganda’s historical context, individuals holding dual nationality must unequivocally declare their allegiance, especially when national interests are at stake.

This statement comes at a time when questions regarding the citizenship of some ministerial nominees have surfaced during parliamentary vetting processes. Museveni posited that the proposed East African Federation could offer a comprehensive, long-term resolution to persistent issues of identity and regional integration.

“Ultimately, the East African Federation remains the long-term solution to questions of identity and integration in our region,” he remarked.

The newly appointed ministers are expected to assume their duties promptly, supporting the government’s broader objectives of enhancing service provision, accountability, and operational efficiency throughout its various sectors.
