President Yoweri Museveni has issued a directive to youth leaders nationwide, urging them to spearhead the mobilization of young Ugandans into productive ventures. The President emphasized the need to eliminate “bystanders and spectators” from the country’s economic and development initiatives.

Delivering the President’s message via Vice President Jessica Alupo at the Annual National Youth Council Sitting in Kampala, Museveni highlighted that increased participation in production will bolster Uganda’s capacity in both agricultural and industrial sectors. This, he stated, is crucial for positioning the country to capitalize on the vast African market, which boasts a population of approximately 1.4 billion people.

Museveni stressed that this expanded production is intrinsically linked to the NRM’s vision of Pan-Africanism, focusing on deeper integration within the East African and broader African markets. He also congratulated the elected youth leaders, encouraging them to leverage their positions to address youth-related challenges and channel their energy towards national development.

The President pointed out that the established youth councils, operating from the village to the national level, serve as vital platforms for young people to voice concerns and engage in development programs. These councils, he noted, should also function as conduits for mobilizing youth into wealth and job creation initiatives.

He further underscored the government’s belief in the significant potential of young people to contribute to national progress, provided they are healthy, educated, skilled, and ideologically sound. Museveni warned that negative ideologies such as sectarianism, nepotism, and anarchism can transform youth into liabilities.

Additionally, Museveni encouraged young people to harness their age and energy for national development, prioritizing their health and avoiding detrimental behaviors like excessive alcohol consumption and promiscuity. He also recommended participation in sports and regular physical exercise to maintain physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, enabling them to contribute effectively to Uganda and the African continent.
