Village chairpersons from across Uganda are currently engaged in a nationwide leadership training program designed to empower them with essential skills for community development. This initiative seeks to bolster grassroots governance and improve the delivery of services at the local level.

The training brings together leaders from various districts, equipping them with practical tools to tackle local challenges and champion development projects. A key focus is on fostering unity among these leaders, encouraging them to pool resources and work collectively for the betterment of their constituents.

Nobert Twizire, the national chairperson of the program, emphasized its importance in building the capacity of village leaders to provide effective governance and drive progress. He highlighted that the program also guides leaders on identifying and tapping into both domestic and international resources to fund community initiatives.

Twizire urged all participants to fully embrace the training, stressing active involvement in improving leadership and development at the grassroots. “Every village chairperson should embrace this programme and actively participate in efforts aimed at improving leadership and development at the grassroots,” he stated.

Adding to the call for unified action, Hadijah Namyalo from the Office of the National Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement, advised the chairpersons to transcend political divides and concentrate on achieving concrete results for their communities. She also underscored the need for leaders to ensure residents are well-informed about government programs aimed at boosting household incomes and livelihoods, thereby enabling communities to benefit from available opportunities.

This training reflects ongoing efforts to fortify leadership structures at the village level and enhance the effective implementation of government initiatives nationwide.
