President Donald Trump has revealed that he secretly changed aircraft after departing a NATO summit in Turkey last month due to a potential threat, reportedly from Iran.

Speaking to reporters, Trump explained that the Secret Service and military recommended the change, stating, “I just have to do what they say.” This clandestine maneuver occurred after reports surfaced that Trump had boarded the visible Air Force One, only to later hide in a catering truck to be moved to a military jet.

While the switch raised concerns about the safety of those left on the decoy plane, Trump asserted that the military jet he ultimately used was at “greater risk.” U.S. officials indicated that a credible Iranian threat to fire a missile at the presidential plane had been detected. Intelligence suggested a person with a shoulder-fired missile was observed near the summit location.

Journalists and some White House staff on the decoy Air Force One were unaware of the president’s departure as part of this security operation. Trump had previously stated he was Iran’s “number one target” during the summit in Ankara.

He commented, “I guess there was a threat out there… I get a lot of threats.” The operation took place shortly after the U.S. renewed strikes on Iran amid stalled negotiations between the two countries.

The president initially announced he would depart on the older Air Force One, but instead, he was reportedly transferred via a catering truck to a smaller C-32A military aircraft. To maintain the deception, the C-32A used the call sign “Reach 18,” while the decoy plane continued as “AF1” with journalists and cabinet members on board.

After flying to the UK, Trump eventually reboarded the older Air Force One before transferring to a newer aircraft for the journey back to Washington. He had previously alluded to danger for reporters on the flight from Turkey, saying they might be on a “dangerous flight because of the sleazebags we have to deal with.”
