In a significant ruling, the High Court of Uganda has handed down the maximum penalty to Luggya Bbosa Tabula and his son, Noah Lujja, sentencing them to death for the murder of Engineer Daniel Kakeeto Bbosa. Engineer Bbosa, a prominent figure and the leader of the Ndiga (Sheep) Clan, was fatally shot on February 25, 2024, outside his residence in Kampala.

The court, presided over by Justice David Matovu, determined that the murder was a result of a protracted conflict concerning the leadership of the Ndiga Clan within the Buganda Kingdom. Evidence presented indicated a high degree of premeditation, with Tabula allegedly organizing planning sessions at his home, supplying a firearm with its serial number removed, and meticulously tracking the victim’s movements.

Further details revealed the use of a motorcycle with altered license plates to facilitate the crime and evade authorities. Justice Matovu emphasized that the harsh sentence was crucial to serve as a deterrent against vigilantism and unlawful acts.

The judge dismissed claims of genuine remorse from the convicted pair, stating that their guilty pleas emerged only after substantial evidence had been compiled by law enforcement. The profound loss to Engineer Bbosa’s family, the Ndiga Clan, and the wider community was also a significant factor in the court’s decision.

Tabula and Lujja have been informed of their right to appeal the sentence within 14 days. Meanwhile, three other individuals accused in connection with the murder—Ezra Mayanja, Harriet Nakiguli, and Joseph Nakabale—have pleaded not guilty and will face a separate trial. All defendants have been in custody at Luzira Prison since March 2024.
