Israel Deploys More Troops Amid Settler Siege on Palestinian Families

Israeli forces are being sent to bolster security in the occupied West Bank following an escalating situation in the village of Qusra, south of Nablus. Settlers have reportedly trapped two Palestinian families, the Abu Ridi and Hassan families, in their homes since Sunday, cutting off essential supplies like water and power.

The U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, condemned the settlers’ actions, labeling them “Israeli terrorists” and calling their behavior “disgusting” and “thuggish.” The embassy has reportedly urged Israel to remove the settlers.

Initial attempts by Israeli security forces on Wednesday to remove the settlers failed, leading to confrontations. Footage showed security forces using tear gas and stun grenades against a larger group of settlers. While some settler equipment was confiscated, their sheltering canopy remained.

Settlements are considered illegal under international law, yet Israel has continued to promote their expansion. In Qusra, a mosque was recently vandalized, and other villages like Jalud have seen similar incidents where Palestinian homes were taken over by settlers after residents were forced to flee.
