Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga is set to preside over the highly anticipated trial of Moses Anguyo, a prison warder accused of a violent incident at Kiboga Central Prison. The proceedings, which will take place at the High Court in Kiboga, are slated to begin on August 17, 2026. Anguyo, along with three individuals alleged to be his accomplices, faces charges stemming from killings that occurred on February 23, 2026.

The case has garnered significant attention from the families of the victims, prison authorities, and the local community, all seeking justice following the February incident. The four suspects, including Anguyo, were committed to the High Court for trial on June 17, 2026, by Kiboga Grade One Magistrate Emmanuel Alioni Drajole.

Anguyo is charged with four counts of murder. The prosecution alleges he unlawfully caused the deaths of Prison Officer Bright Akishuri, Sarah Ayebare, Alson Niwagaba, and Assistant Superintendent of Police Hope Catherine. He also faces two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of threatening violence. The prosecution contends that Anguyo committed these acts with malice aforethought.

Specifically, Anguyo is accused of robbing Grace Katusiime of black jeans at Saza Shops in Kiboga Town Council while allegedly armed with a sub-machine gun. He is also accused of threatening to shoot or kill Principal Warden Ivan Niwagaba at Kiboga Government Prison on the same day.

The alleged accomplices, identified as Peter Anziku (also known as Dickson Okwonzi) and Hellen Amviko, are accused of coordinating and assisting Anguyo to evade arrest and prosecution between February 23 and March 27, 2026. Their alleged actions are said to have prejudiced the families of the deceased and the administration of justice.

Anguyo was apprehended in Aru, Democratic Republic of Congo, on March 27, 2026, after being on the run. A joint operation involving Ugandan and Congolese security forces led to his capture, and he was subsequently extradited to Uganda to face the charges.

The impending trial is seen as a crucial step towards resolving questions that have lingered in Kiboga since the shocking events of February 23, which began with gunfire at the prison and spread panic through the town. Local leaders have emphasized the importance of timely justice to maintain public trust.
