Kin Kariisa, the Chief Executive Officer of Next Media Group, has called on young Ugandans to shift their perspective on failure, urging them to embrace it as a catalyst for learning and growth. Speaking during an event marking International Youth Day, Kariisa emphasized the importance of continuous learning and innovation, encouraging the youth to actively seek out challenges in their communities and transform them into opportunities.

Kariisa shared personal insights from his career, highlighting how setbacks and mistakes, when properly analyzed, can provide invaluable lessons for both personal and professional development. He implored the younger generation not to be deterred by initial failures but to remain bold in their endeavors.

“Don’t wait for perfect opportunities,” Kariisa advised, stressing that young people should take ownership of their futures by honing their skills, maintaining curiosity, and developing practical solutions to everyday problems. This proactive approach, he believes, is crucial for individual success and national progress.

Ronnie Musiimenta, Head of Programmes at Next Radio, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the station’s commitment to providing platforms for youth expression, mentorship, and engagement with experienced professionals. “We want to create conversations that inspire young people to believe in themselves and pursue their ambitions,” Musiimenta stated, emphasizing that youth empowerment requires sustained support beyond annual events.

Participants at the event shared that the discussion offered a fresh perspective on success, normalizing the experience of failure and encouraging perseverance. The message resonated, motivating many to identify opportunities within existing challenges and to leverage their current skills.

The engagement also highlighted critical needs for youth development, including mentorship, skills acquisition, employment prospects, and better connections with industry leaders, particularly relevant given Uganda’s youth unemployment and skills gap challenges. Next Radio continues its role in fostering dialogue and providing a space for young Ugandans to discuss pertinent issues and engage with leaders.

This initiative underscores that empowering youth involves equipping them with the mindset to identify problems, innovate solutions, and confidently take calculated risks, recognizing that success is often a journey marked by learning from every step, including failures.
