Seventeen-year-old Keisha Wilsthire Kagoro has emerged victorious at the Botswana Ladies Golf Open, triumphing over a competitive field with a total score of 227 gross over 54 holes. Kagoro, who is currently pursuing her education and golf development in South Africa, delivered a stellar performance at the Phakalane Golf Course in Gaborone.
Her performance included consistent scoring across three rounds, notably a first-round score of one-under 72. Kagoro expressed her elation, stating that the victory felt “surreal” and dedicated the win to her supportive family and coaches. She also extended encouragement to her fellow competitors.
Kagoro’s participation and success are part of a High-Performance Programme at the Elite Sporting and Cultural Academy in Johannesburg, a joint initiative supported by The R&A of Scotland and the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) to nurture young golfing talent from Uganda.
The Uganda Golf Union lauded Kagoro’s achievement, highlighting it as a testament to the growing potential within the nation’s junior golf programs and the value of investing in young athletes. Local talent Ludmilla Varmuza and Loapi Chokwe of Botswana secured a tie for second place with a gross score of 236.
This international triumph by Kagoro is seen as a significant milestone, not only for her personal golfing journey but also for the broader landscape of women’s golf in Uganda, opening new possibilities and inspiring future generations.
