Seventeen-year-old Keisha Wilsthire Kagoro has made a notable mark on the international golf scene by winning the Botswana Ladies Golf Open held in Gaborone. Competing at the Phakalane Golf Course, Kagoro showcased her talent over 54 holes, finishing with a winning score of eight-over 227 gross.

Her performance included consistent play across the three rounds, with Kagoro reportedly making at least two birdies in each round. She particularly shone in her opening round, carding an impressive one-under 72. This breakthrough victory is being hailed as a significant achievement for a young female Ugandan golfer competing beyond national borders.

Kagoro expressed her astonishment and gratitude, stating, “This still feels somewhat surreal.” She extended thanks to her family for their “unwavering and unconditional support” and her coaches for their daily guidance. “This is a memory I will treasure forever,” she added.

Botswanan golfers Ludmilla Varmuza and Loapi Chokwe secured a tie for second place, both finishing with a gross score of 236.

Kagoro is part of a high-performance program at the Elite Sporting and Cultural Academy in Johannesburg, South Africa. This initiative is supported by The R&A of Scotland and the Uganda Golf Union (UGU), aimed at nurturing promising young golfers for future success.

“We are immensely proud of Keisha’s achievement. Her victory is a strong testament to the growing talent and potential within Uganda’s junior golf programme,” commented a representative from the Uganda Golf Union.

This triumph underscores the positive impact of investing in junior golf development in Uganda.
