Activists Attempt to Deliver Aid to Besieged Palestinian Families
Activists attempted to provide essential supplies to two Palestinian families trapped in their homes in Qusra, West Bank, which have been blockaded by Israeli settlers for days. Supplies were left outside due to alleged Israeli military prevention of direct delivery. A group of activists made an effort to deliver much-needed aid, including water and food, to Palestinian families whose homes in Qusra, an occupied West Bank village, have been under siege by Israeli settlers. The two families have reportedly been trapped since Sunday, with their access to power and water cut off.
According to residents, Israeli forces prevented activists from directly reaching the families, forcing them to leave the supplies outside the besieged homes. However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have denied these claims.
The situation escalated on Thursday when Israeli forces moved to disperse settlers who had been present in the area. During this operation, approximately a dozen Palestinian households were instructed to vacate their properties. Some of these vacated homes are allegedly being used by the Israeli military as temporary barracks, according to the Mayor of Qusra.
The IDF stated that Qusra had been declared a “closed military zone” to prevent Israeli civilians, including the activists, from entering. Despite this, the military asserted that the activists were not hindered from transferring aid to the Palestinian homes.
Earlier on Friday, settlers had reportedly set up a tent near the site, which was later removed by Israeli forces who stated they were protecting local residents. The Israeli military also stated that soldiers had been instructed to ensure the Qusra residents remained in their homes.
The blockade began on Sunday when settlers reportedly blocked access to the families’ homes and severed their utility connections. The ongoing settler violence and displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank, which is illegal under international law, have been a growing concern, with the UN reporting significant displacement figures in recent years.
