Buganda Kingdom has thrown its weight behind Mengo Senior School’s extensive Akwana House project, a development estimated to cost Shs19 billion upon completion. This significant undertaking is set to introduce crucial new facilities and upgrade existing ones, aiming to foster a more conducive learning and living environment for students.
The commitment was formally expressed by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, following a meeting with Mengo Senior School officials at Bulange-Mengo. The school representatives had presented their plans, including a school run scheduled for August 15th, as part of a broader fundraising effort for the Akwana House initiative.
Akwana House is designed to incorporate a modern dining hall, a state-of-the-art computer laboratory, and nine new dormitories. These additions are intended to address current infrastructure limitations and prepare the school for contemporary educational demands and student needs.
Katikkiro Mayiga conveyed the Kingdom’s unwavering support, stating, “The Kingdom is committed to supporting the school’s activities, and this is something we are going to do.” He specifically highlighted the importance of the new dining facility for student welfare and lauded the inclusion of a computer lab, recognizing its critical role in aligning the school with modern technological advancements.
The Minister for Education in Buganda Kingdom, Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, also commended Mengo Senior School for its long-standing contribution to education and for nurturing students who have excelled in various societal roles. The school’s reputation for producing accomplished professionals continues to be a source of pride.
Glorious Bua, the Deputy Headteacher of Mengo Senior School, extended her gratitude to Katikkiro Mayiga for his endorsement and participation in the fundraising drive. She urged other well-wishers to contribute to the project, emphasizing the positive example set by the Kingdom’s leadership.
