Wakiso Resident District Commissioner Justine Mbabazi has ordered the arrest of three Nansana Division officials for alleged mismanagement of public funds. The clampdown came during a public Baraza aimed at assessing the implementation of government programs in the area.

Those apprehended include Town Clerk Rosette Namiro, Agricultural and Veterinary Officer Peter Nsubuga, and Hajjarah Ntudde, who was responsible for identifying Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries. The officials faced scrutiny over their accountability for funds allocated to the division.

Namiro’s office reportedly received Shs34.742 million, part of which was used to purchase 116 school desks at Shs295,000 each. Residents present questioned the procurement process and the high cost of the desks. Further expenditures included over Shs10 million for a water tank at Nansana SDA Primary School and the purchase of 35 pigs at Shs39,700 each under a program to boost household incomes.

The explanations provided failed to satisfy the attending residents, who pressed for more details on the spending and beneficiaries. The situation escalated when Ntudde read out PDM beneficiary lists, with several individuals named reportedly denying ever receiving any funds.

RDC Mbabazi stated that misuse of taxpayer money would not be tolerated and vowed to hold officials accountable. Investigations are underway to determine the proper distribution and receipt of PDM funds in Nansana. The PDM, a key government initiative aimed at boosting local economies, has faced similar accountability challenges in other parts of the country.

Additionally, concerns were raised about some government schools allegedly charging illegal fees, contrary to the free primary education policy. Mbabazi has directed the police to investigate these claims and take action against any defaulting school heads.

The arrested officials have been taken to the police to provide statements as investigations continue into the alleged financial irregularities. Residents expressed their support for the crackdown, emphasizing the importance of proper fund utilization for public good.
