Kamuli District local government has launched a significant initiative to bolster agricultural productivity by distributing 97,000 hand hoes. The tools, procured from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, are being allocated to households, community groups, and government schools across the district.

District LCV chairperson Kaloli Dhizaala officially commenced the distribution, emphasizing its importance in boosting food production, combating hunger, and improving household incomes. Government schools are set to receive 50 hoes each, intended for the establishment and upkeep of school gardens that will support feeding programs.

Dhizaala highlighted the timely nature of the distribution, coinciding with farmers’ preparations for the second rainy season. He urged beneficiaries to utilize the tools effectively for increased yields and to resist any temptation to sell them, warning that district monitoring teams would oversee their use and implement sanctions for misuse.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner Adonia Mafumo echoed these sentiments, stating that the over Shs1 billion worth of agricultural tools aligns with broader government strategies like the Parish Development Model to strengthen economic participation at the household level.

Local leaders, such as Namasagali Sub-county chairperson Richard Mutuya, have welcomed the initiative. Mutuya noted that many residents rely on farming but find it difficult to afford essential tools like hoes, making this distribution a valuable and appreciated gift, particularly ahead of the planting season.

This initiative underscores the district’s commitment to supporting its agricultural backbone and fostering economic growth through improved farming practices. The provided tools are expected to make a tangible difference in the lives of many farmers and students in Kamuli.
