Spiro and Rwenzori Marathon Team Up for Green Mobility Initiative

Spiro has officially joined forces with the Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon, becoming its designated Green Mobility Partner for the upcoming 2026 event. This partnership was formally launched with a ‘Green Boda Boda’ ride in Kampala, involving over 200 Spiro riders.

The collaboration seeks to underscore the importance of clean and sustainable transportation methods while drawing a clear link between a healthy environment and personal health. During the marathon in Kasese, Spiro’s electric motorcycles will be utilized to transport key personnel, including journalists and medical staff, showcasing their practical application in supporting major events.

Amos Wekesa, Co-Founder of the Rwenzori Marathon, emphasized the event’s unique position and the partnership’s broader significance. “This partnership with Spiro is more than running; it is about connecting personal health with environmental health,” Wekesa stated, expressing pride in Spiro’s role in promoting green transport.

Bruce Mucunguzi, Deputy Country Head of Spiro Uganda, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the company’s commitment to a healthier environment as the foundation for a healthy population. “There is an urgent need to embrace clean transport, and Spiro is taking the message of clean mobility to the heart of Kasese,” Mucunguzi remarked, advocating for the adoption of clean transport solutions to protect natural beauty.

Spiro, a prominent electric mobility provider across Africa, aims to increase access to affordable clean transport and generate economic opportunities. The company has already deployed over 30,000 electric motorcycles in Uganda, working to substitute fossil-fuel-powered vehicles with their battery-swapping infrastructure. This initiative aligns with the growing need for cleaner transport solutions in urban areas to combat pollution and improve air quality, especially as cities expand.

The 2026 Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon is set to take place on August 22 in the Kasese District, featuring various race categories including 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km. The partnership signifies a progressive step towards integrating eco-friendly practices into large-scale sporting events, promoting healthier lifestyles and environmental consciousness.
