The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force has officially retired 56 senior and junior officers who recently concluded their active service. A formal ceremony was held at the Air Force Headquarters in Entebbe to honor their contributions.
Commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Charles Okidi, expressed gratitude for the officers’ unwavering dedication to the nation. He encouraged the retirees to serve as exemplary ambassadors for the UPDF and to actively participate in productive endeavors, leveraging government programs established for their post-service life.
Lt Gen Okidi also issued a stern warning against engaging in reckless lifestyles and stressed the importance of prudent financial management. He advised the officers to carefully differentiate between their essential needs and discretionary wants as they transition to civilian life.
The ceremony acknowledged the vital support provided by the spouses of the officers throughout their military careers. “We recognise and thank our spouses for standing with us through this noble journey,” Lt Gen Okidi stated.
Brigadier General James Itungo, Chief of Staff Air Force, congratulated the departing officers for their distinguished service within the UPDF. Representing the retirees, Colonel Patrick Mutome pledged that they would lead modest yet productive lives, continuing to contribute to Uganda’s economic progress.
This retirement event is part of a larger UPDF initiative, with a total of 1,817 personnel and officers scheduled for retirement in August 2026, comprising various ranks including general officers, senior and junior officers, and militants.
