A total of twelve individuals sustained injuries in a severe head-on collision that occurred on Saturday night, August 15, 2026. The incident took place at Ttamu Trading Centre along the busy Kampala-Mityana-Mubende road.
The crash involved a Toyota Hilux pickup truck and a Toyota Hiace taxi. According to police reports, the pickup, driven by Mityana Municipality Town Clerk Kateba Godfrey, 48, was traveling from Kampala towards Mityana and Mubende.
Eyewitness accounts and police preliminary findings suggest that as the pickup approached Ttamu Trading Centre around 9:45 pm, the driver was allegedly distracted by the glare of oncoming headlights. This distraction reportedly caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Subsequently, the pickup veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a direct collision with a Toyota Hiace taxi. The taxi, driven by Ssekande Richard, 34, was carrying ten passengers at the time of the crash.
Both the drivers of the pickup and the taxi, along with all ten passengers, suffered injuries. They were promptly transported to Mityana General Hospital and nearby health facilities for immediate medical attention.
Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi confirmed that traffic investigators visited the scene to document the incident. The wreckage of both vehicles has been impounded at the Mityana Traffic Police Yard as investigations continue into the exact cause of the collision.
Police are urging all motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially during nighttime driving, and to avoid any actions that could compromise their focus or vehicle control. Further inquiries into the accident are ongoing.
