The National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) Jinja campus is making a strategic move to elevate Uganda’s profile as a premier center for advanced security training across Africa.

As India’s sole overseas campus of NFSU, the Jinja facility is actively developing academic, professional, and research programs aimed at nurturing expertise in forensic science, cyber security, and other emerging security domains. The initiative targets a diverse audience, including young professionals, law enforcement officers, and members of various security agencies from Uganda and across the continent.

During recent celebrations marking India’s Independence Day at the Gaddafi Barracks campus, NFSU Campus Director Air Commodore Thaakar highlighted the institution’s commitment to building specialized capacity within Uganda and the broader East African region. “We are here to help Ugandans, especially the young people and the youth of East Africa, in capacity building,” he stated.

The campus currently offers six postgraduate degrees, such as Master’s in Forensic Science, Digital Forensics, and Cyber Security, alongside four one-year postgraduate diplomas covering areas like homeland security and crime scene management. These programs are accessible to all individuals, irrespective of their background or nationality.

Ugandan security forces, including the UPDF and the Uganda Police Force, are already enrolling personnel for these specialized courses. The presence of students from countries like Gabon and Botswana underscores the campus’s growing regional reach.

Brig Gen Alex Olupot, Commandant of the National Defence College, emphasized the university’s potential to bolster regional security infrastructure. He encouraged NFSU Jinja to train individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds, thereby enhancing overall security systems and contributing to national development. This endeavor further strengthens the long-standing strategic partnership between Uganda and India, spanning various sectors including education, defense, and health.
