The highly anticipated Omumanyi wa Salam TV Islamic knowledge competition is back for its seventh edition, with Salam TV collaborating with Sanyuka TV to broaden its reach. The launch event, held at Macca Mosque in Iganga Municipality, introduced significant changes aimed at enhancing the competition’s integrity and accessibility.

A key innovation for the 2027 edition is the introduction of a dedicated question booklet. Unlike previous years where questions were prepared from various sources, all competition questions will now be exclusively drawn from this new material. Organizers believe this will provide a standardized study resource for all participants.

Busoga region has been granted autonomous status in the competition, a change from its previous inclusion in a wider eastern grouping. This will allow contestants from Busoga to compete amongst themselves before the regional winner advances to the national finals.

Abdussalaam Ali Kinobe, the face of the competition and Country Director of Salam Charity, highlighted that the earlier launch is a strategic adjustment to accommodate Saudi Arabia’s revised Hajj registration period. This ensures the competition concludes in time for the winner to benefit from the Hajj pilgrimage, a significant part of the prize package.

Sheikh Hasan Mwaita, the Regional Kadhi of Busoga, graced the launch and urged Muslims to embody mercy and compassion. He also condemned child abuse and livestock trafficking as contrary to Islamic teachings. He encouraged widespread participation, emphasizing that the knowledge gained is valuable regardless of winning.

Registration for the competition costs Shs20,000 without the booklet. However, purchasing the Shs40,000 booklet includes registration, as Salam Charity is subsidizing its cost. Previous winners are not eligible to compete.

Ali Mats’ad, the 2026 champion, shared his positive experience, noting that the vehicle prize continues to support his community outreach, and all promised benefits, including the Hajj pilgrimage, were fulfilled. He encouraged new participants to seize the opportunity for personal growth.

Registration details and further information can be found through Salam TV and Sanyuka TV. The national finals are scheduled for December of this year.
