The Rotary Club of Medical Pioneers Mengo has officially joined the Rotary International family. The new club, chartered on June 3, 2026, comprises 65 charter members, all drawn from the medical and allied health professions at Mengo Hospital.
This institutional club brings together doctors, nurses, administrators, and other healthcare professionals who aim to build upon Mengo Hospital’s extensive legacy of service. CPA Julius Luswata was installed as the club’s first Charter President during a recent ceremony in Kampala.
In his inaugural address, Luswata highlighted the club’s motivation: to extend Mengo Hospital’s healing ethos beyond its current reach and address critical challenges affecting patients and healthcare workers. “We are not just chartering a club but planting a seed of service above self, inside the very walls where healing happens every day,” Luswata stated.
The club’s agenda is shaped by three core concerns in the healthcare sector: the high cost of medical care, the welfare and well-being of healthcare workers, and the need to enhance Mengo Hospital’s role in healthcare development.
For its initial year, the club will focus on a preventive healthcare approach through three key initiatives. “Healing Beyond the Walls” involves expanding free medical camps and screenings to underserved communities. “Caring for the Caregivers” aims to support the social and mental health of healthcare staff through various welfare and development programs, including an initiative called “Tondeka e Dubai.”
The third focus is on building partnerships, leveraging Rotary’s international network to secure support for healthcare infrastructure and improve patient care at Mengo Hospital. A significant long-term project will be the establishment of a Hope Ward at the hospital, dedicated to providing essential care for vulnerable patients unable to afford treatment.
Rotary District Governor Daniel Mukasa Ddamulira commended the new club’s commitment to service, while Immediate Past District Governor Christine Kyeyune Kawooya urged the “Medical Pioneers” to embrace innovation in addressing healthcare challenges.
The Rotary Club of Medical Pioneers Mengo was established with the support of its sponsor clubs, the Rotary Club of Mengo and the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf, intending to translate professional expertise into tangible community impact.
