Father, Brother Arrested as Hunt Continues for Man Accused of Cannibalism in Lwengo

Authorities in Lwengo District have taken into custody Hussein Lule, the 61-year-old father, and another son identified only as King, belonging to Habasa Muzaffar. Muzaffar is the primary suspect in the grisly discovery of human remains found within his residence in Kigeye B Village, Malongo sub-county.
Local residents stumbled upon a sack containing human remains last Friday, leading them to search Muzaffar’s home. Inside, they reportedly discovered a fresh hand, a weave, and various other human bones, prompting an immediate manhunt for the suspect.
Lule, Muzaffar’s father, stated that while he was unaware of any cannibalistic tendencies, his son has a known history of drug abuse. “I was shocked to receive information that my son had been found with human remains,” he said, adding, “We don’t have a history of such strange habits, and I was not aware that my son had developed such a character, though he is a drug addict.”
The village chairperson, Emanuel Ssempereza, confirmed the community’s heightened state of fear, especially with children returning home for holidays. The discovery of clothing believed to be used in the burial of a toddler during the search for Muzaffar has further intensified concerns. Residents are urging the police to intensify efforts to apprehend Muzaffar.
Mr. Twaha Kasirye, the Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, noting that they are a strategic move to gather information that could lead to Muzaffar’s whereabouts and expedite the investigation.
