IGG Suspends URSB Registrar General Kainobwisho Amid Graft Probe

Lady Justice Aisha Batala, the Inspector General of Government, has initiated a significant investigation into the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), leading to the suspension of its top leadership. Registrar General Mercy Kainobwisho, along with Deputy Registrar General Alex Aganya, Commissioner for ICT and Innovations Arthur Kwesiga, and Assistant Commissioner for Business Registration Services Walid Kule, have all been interdicted.

This development follows a directive from President Yoweri Museveni, who called for senior URSB officials to be placed on forced leave. The purpose of this leave is to facilitate thorough investigations into a range of serious allegations.

Sources indicate that Ms. Kainobwisho is specifically under scrutiny for alleged embezzlement of government funds, abuse of office, institutional mismanagement, money laundering, and broader maladministration within the URSB.

In addition to the interdictions, the IGG has also halted the URSB’s executive training program at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi. This suspension will remain in effect until the investigations are concluded.
