Daka Defends Miss Universe Uganda Crown Amidst Controversy

The crowning of Mitchelle Daka as Miss Universe Uganda 2026 was met with immediate celebration, but quickly followed by public debate. Many questioned if Daka, 29, was the rightful winner, with some favoring the younger contestant Kimberly Jael Aremo Acio. Social media buzzed with discussions about fairness and the judges’ criteria.

Daka acknowledged the disappointment some felt, understanding that audiences invest emotionally in contestants. She believes the public saw only the final performance, not the extensive preparation and behind-the-scenes evaluations. Acio, a popular favorite, represented a fresh face, making Daka’s win a surprise to some.

Daka’s decision to enter pageantry stemmed from a desire to create a legacy beyond personal milestones. Having worked extensively in the fashion industry, she saw Miss Universe as a platform to connect people and make a broader impact.

Looking ahead to the international competition, Daka is focused on refining her skills and plans to collaborate with Ugandan designers to showcase local talent on the global stage. She is confident in her preparation and readiness to represent Uganda.
