Gators Swim Club Dominates Inaugural Home Invitational Gala

Gators Swim Club celebrated a triumphant debut on home waters, clinching overall victory at their inaugural Invitational Gala held at Kampala Parents School, Naguru. The club’s success was powered by standout swimmers including Nissi Kahinju, Joel Nyaika, Paloma Kirabo, Schwarzkopf Thembo Katende, and Paralympian Husnah Kukundakwe.

The gala attracted over 300 individual swims across multiple age categories, from 10-11 years up to the 18 & Over group, showcasing a vibrant swimming community in Uganda.

In the younger age groups, Aya Ofleh Adams of Blue Whales Aquatic Venture impressed in the 10-11 girls’ category, winning multiple races including the 50m and 100m butterfly. Imara Aquatics’ Raan Batuk was a force in the boys’ 10-11 category, securing seven out of eight races, particularly excelling in breaststroke and freestyle.

The 12-13 age group saw fierce competition, with Dolphins’ Jinan Nakato and Aquatic Academy’s Mushirah Nabatanzi dominating their respective events. Torpedoes’ Elijah Ayesiga delivered a commanding performance in the boys’ division, sweeping freestyle, butterfly, and breaststroke events.

Nissi Kahinju of Gators was a key contender in the 14-15 girls’ category, battling against a strong Dolphins trio. In the boys’ 14-15 division, Manuel Ssemanda secured freestyle victories, while Jayson Aronda and Elijah Mukisa also registered notable wins.

Paloma Kirabo and Alex Rumanyika were among the top performers for Gators in the 16-17 age groups, with Rumanyika particularly shining in the butterfly events. The senior boys’ 18 & Over category was highly competitive, featuring strong swims from Pendo Kaumi and Mathew Mwase.

Despite fewer entries in some of the girls’ 18 & Over events, Paralympian Husnah Kukundakwe continued to showcase her talent, securing wins in butterfly and backstroke races.

This event marked a significant milestone for Gators Swim Club, establishing their presence as a competitive force in Ugandan swimming. The competition provided a valuable platform for swimmers of all levels to hone their skills and achieve personal bests.
