Katanga Feeding Drive to Aid Over 5,000 Residents

Over five thousand individuals residing in the Katanga informal settlement are slated to receive much-needed food aid through a humanitarian mission. This initiative, named the “Humanitarian Mission in Katanga,” aims to honor the profound legacy of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mother Teresa.
The program is spearheaded by Dr. Mitchell Corral, the founder of Breath of the Spirit Ministries International, working in collaboration with the Ugandan civil society organization, Heal the Planet.
During a press conference in Nsambya, Kampala, Dr. Ernest Kivumbi, President of Heal the Planet, announced that the feeding program is designed to offer unconditional support to vulnerable urban communities. He also highlighted that the initiative aligns with the commemoration of Mother Teresa’s birthday.
“This programme also coincides with Dr. Corral’s ‘Fire and Anointing Conferences’, which will bring together pastors from across Africa here in Uganda,” Dr. Kivumbi noted. He added that the conference presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen community development and relief networks throughout the region. The conference is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
Dr. Corral is no stranger to humanitarian work in Uganda. In 2019, she previously delivered $350,000 (approximately Shs 1.3 billion) in relief aid during a visit. Her broader engagements in the country include constructing water wells, organizing medical camps, supporting former street children, and providing meals to refugees at the Bidibidi Refugee Settlement. Globally, her ministry has contributed over $3 million in humanitarian assistance to various countries.
Bishop Thomson Byamugisha, overseer of the Makindye Ssabagabo Pastors’ Fellowship, welcomed the initiative, encouraging Ugandans to embrace acts of service to promote national unity and peace. “Let us, as a country, continue walking in love and exhibiting the doctrine of oneness as we promote peace through embracing development projects,” Bishop Byamugisha stated.
