Police have taken three suspects into custody following a disturbing incident of robbery and alleged gang rape in Nsangi, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
The crime reportedly took place last Friday at a local salon where three women were sleeping. According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the assailants broke into the premises, robbed the occupants of their mobile phones and cash, and subsequently sexually assaulted two of the women multiple times.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation and gathered crucial leads that aided in the identification and arrest of the three suspects. An identification parade was conducted on August 17, 2026, during which two victims positively identified one of the accused. This identification led to the apprehension of the remaining two suspects.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries to fully understand the circumstances of the crime and to determine if any other individuals were involved. This incident comes as the latest police crime report indicates a slight decrease in overall robbery cases in 2025 compared to the previous year, though aggravated robberies and those involving cash saw an increase.
Kampala Metropolitan Police areas continue to register the highest numbers of robbery cases across the country. Further investigations are ongoing in Nsangi.
