UPDF Gears Up for Second CDF Interforces Drills with Cultural Flair

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is preparing for the second annual CDF Interforces Drills, scheduled to commence this Saturday at the Kololo Independence Grounds. This event aims to highlight the military’s precision, discipline, and cohesive operations.

Over 1,400 participants from more than 40 teams across various UPDF units are expected to take part. The drills, themed “Precision, Discipline and Cohesion: Pillars of National Resilience and Transformation,” are designed to enhance unity, operational readiness, and the physical capabilities of the armed forces.

This year’s drills will uniquely blend military excellence with Ugandan cultural heritage. Obbo Henry, Deputy Director of Defence Public Information at the UPDF, stated that the program will include traditional military exercises like sword, foot, and troop drills, alongside musical performances and cultural showcases.

“We want to use these drills not only to demonstrate precision and discipline, but also to bring out the cultural diversity and heritage of Uganda,” Obbo explained. The event is intended to demonstrate the coordination and preparedness of the participating units while offering the public a chance to engage with and appreciate the work of the UPDF.

The competition will conclude on Tuesday, August 25, with a grand finale. The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is expected to present awards to the top drill team and best drill commander, with special recognitions for innovation and cultural integration.

The UPDF has invited the public to attend the drills throughout the event, providing an opportunity for citizens to witness military displays and celebrate national pride and the forces’ commitment to serving the country.
