PM Nabbanja Urges Kyegegwa Residents to Shun Mob Justice, Cooperate with Police

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has issued a stern warning to the residents of Kyegegwa District, urging them to refrain from engaging in mob justice. Addressing Parliament, Nabbanja highlighted that taking the law into one’s own hands can significantly impede ongoing criminal investigations and endanger innocent lives.

She informed Members of Parliament that security agencies are actively working in the district, combining enforcement measures with community engagement to address recent criminal incidents. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, has initiated sensitisation campaigns in affected areas. These efforts aim to dissuade residents from resorting to mob justice and encourage them to report any suspected individuals to the authorities.

Nabbanja stressed that mob justice undermines the investigative process and puts innocent lives at risk. She confirmed that police have enhanced patrols, intelligence-led operations, and investigations into the incidents that have caused considerable concern within the district.

The Prime Minister appealed to local leaders, religious figures, and other community influencers to foster a sense of calm. She encouraged them to motivate victims and witnesses to come forward with information that could aid investigators in their pursuit of justice.

Members of Parliament from the Kyegegwa region acknowledged the government’s response but called for a greater security presence and expedited investigations to restore public confidence. The Speaker has directed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to present a comprehensive report to Parliament detailing the investigation findings and the preventative measures being implemented.
