Authorities in the Savannah Region have successfully apprehended 33 suspected criminals, disrupting a notorious gang responsible for a spate of violent crimes. The operation, which involved intelligence-led raids in Luweero, Matugga, and Wakiso, targeted individuals involved in armed robberies, assaults on boda-boda riders, and commercial break-ins.

Four key figures, identified as Reagan Kalyango (alias “My Lord”), Ismail Ssenyonga (alias “Kashagama”), Umar Kigenyi Ivan, and Hussien Mutesasira (alias “Kapele”), are believed to be the ringleaders of the gang. According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the core group has confessed to a string of violent offenses committed across Luweero Town Council, Bombo Town Council, and sections of Nakasongola District.

The gang’s modus operandi reportedly included using pavers to stone victims, employing pangas and iron bars to attack boda-boda operators, and targeting local businesses for burglaries. These arrests are part of a broader police strategy to combat rising crime and dismantle organized criminal networks plaguing the region.

In addition to the alleged leaders, 29 other suspects were taken into custody during wider sweeps across Luweero District. Arrests were made in various sub-counties and town councils, with Kalagala Sub-county seeing the largest number of apprehensions.

All 33 suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting charges related to aggravated robbery, assault, and burglary as investigations continue. The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid ongoing law enforcement efforts.
