President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning, asserting that the United States will impose “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences” on any country that supports or engages in commerce with Iran. This declaration, made in all capital letters on Truth Social, signaled the initiation of what he termed “the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country!”
Trump’s forceful statement comes as a 60-day ceasefire with Iran has expired, with no clear diplomatic or military resolution in sight for the ongoing conflict. The president’s move appears to be an escalation of the pressure campaign known as Operation Economic Fury, which was launched in April to sanction foreign financial institutions and businesses dealing with Tehran.
He explicitly stated that “ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.” While Trump did not detail the specific penalties, he called for an immediate cessation of activities such as oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, and the use of front companies, directing his message towards those he believes are aiding Iran.
