Ugandan international Allan Okello has finalized a three-year deal with Moroccan side AS Far Rabat, marking a significant step in his career. The transfer, announced by Far Rabat, was the culmination of a week-long negotiation process where Okello’s representatives skillfully used the Moroccan club’s eagerness to sign the player as a bargaining chip.

While AS Far Rabat and Okello’s former club, Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga), had agreed on a transfer fee of $500,000, the player’s personal terms presented the initial hurdle. Sources close to the negotiations revealed that Far Rabat’s initial offer, while boasting a higher base salary than Okello’s previous contract, lacked the equivalent benefits such as accommodation and transportation he enjoyed in Tanzania. This meant the overall package needed careful consideration, especially given the higher cost of living in Morocco.

The breakthrough came on Thursday morning when Okello’s team pushed for a deal that would genuinely improve the player’s financial and welfare situation. This resulted in a total player package valued at $800,000 over the three-year contract, addressing the concerns that had momentarily stalled the agreement.

The move also presents Okello with exciting footballing prospects. AS Far Rabat’s recent performance, including reaching the CAF Champions League final, offers him a platform to compete at the highest level of African club football. Furthermore, the presence of coach Pedro Gonçalves, who previously signed Okello for Yanga, was a key factor in the midfielder’s decision.

Okello departs Yanga after a highly successful, albeit short, spell where he contributed 14 goals and eight assists, helping them secure the league title. Yanga’s president expressed that Okello will always have a home at the club, underscoring the positive relationship as the player embarks on this new chapter in Morocco.

This transfer ensures Okello has a deal that is believed to maximize his potential while he continues to be a vital attacking asset for the Uganda Cranes ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
