A Makindye Chief Magistrates Court has ordered the remand of four individuals accused of the aggravated robbery and murder of SC Villa football captain, David Owori. The suspects, identified as Ahumuza David (18), Elvis Munguci, also known as Sadik Emmanuel Commander (19), Ssegawa Francis (20), and Lubega Martin (18), appeared in court on Friday.
The court heard that the accused, along with others still at large, allegedly attacked Owori on August 4, 2026, in the Dubai Zone area of Makindye Division, Kampala. The prosecution claims they robbed Owori of two mobile phones and a bag containing his personal items before causing his death.
During the court proceedings, Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera explained that the charges are capital offenses, meaning the Chief Magistrate’s Court does not have the jurisdiction to try them. These cases will proceed to the High Court.
In addition to the murder charge, the four suspects face separate charges related to other alleged robberies. These include the robbery of a Congolese national, Dr. Jackson Ombeni, where an iPhone, foreign currency, and other valuables were reportedly taken using a paver as a weapon. Furthermore, Ahumuza and Munguci are separately accused of robbing Edrisa Mugisha of a mobile phone.
The prosecution stated that investigations are ongoing, and some accomplices are still being sought. The accused have been remanded until September 10, 2026, when they are expected to appear in court again. They were informed of their right to apply for bail at the High Court.
