Ibanda RDC Suspends 'Lord's Community' Over Property Allegations

Godfrey Mbetegyereize, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Ibanda, has officially halted the operations of a burgeoning religious group locally known as the Lord’s Community, or ‘Abaloodi’. This decisive action stems from mounting security concerns reported by local residents and leaders.

The group has reportedly been active in the Kashangura and Mahega areas within Ibanda Municipality. It has drawn significant attention due to serious allegations that prospective adherents are compelled to relinquish their possessions, including land, as a prerequisite for joining.

These claims have ignited fears among community members and local authorities about the potential exploitation of vulnerable individuals, who could be pressured into forfeiting valuable assets.

In an interview, RDC Mbetegyereize confirmed the suspension, stating, “I have halted the activities of this group because of the security concerns that have been raised by the community and local leaders.” The aim is to safeguard residents from potential exploitation while a thorough investigation is conducted to ascertain the group’s legal standing and operational methods.

Mbetegyereize revealed that he has also reached out to the Office of the President to seek guidance and clearance regarding the group’s activities. Authorities are awaiting a response before deciding on the subsequent steps.

This suspension highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to scrutinize the Lord’s Community’s operations and address the grievances voiced by the local populace.
