Jambojet, a Kenyan low-cost airline, has announced the relaunch of its Nairobi-Entebbe route, commencing daily operations on October 1, 2026. This move signifies the airline’s re-entry into the Ugandan market after a six-year departure.
The restored route will accommodate both passenger and cargo services, aiming to enhance travel and trade options between Uganda and Kenya amidst growing regional demand. Jambojet’s Chief Executive, Karanja Ndegwa, stated that the return is a strategic initiative to bolster regional connectivity and make air travel more accessible and affordable.
One-way fares on the route are expected to start at approximately US$170, with comprehensive cargo and parcel services also being offered. Jambojet’s re-entry intensifies competition on the already busy Nairobi-Entebbe corridor, which currently sees services from Kenya Airways, Uganda Airlines, Safarilink, and others.
This increased competition is anticipated to provide travelers with more choices regarding fares, schedules, and service quality. Jambojet projects that the Nairobi-Entebbe route could potentially serve around 300,000 passengers in 2026, highlighting a substantial demand between the two East African economic centers.
Furthermore, the resumption of flights is expected to improve access for Ugandan travelers to popular Kenyan coastal destinations such as Mombasa, Diani, Malindi, and Lamu, via connections from Nairobi. Jambojet had initially launched services to Uganda in 2018 but suspended regional operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, subsequently focusing on its domestic network in Kenya.
The airline’s expansion continues, having recently increased its fleet to 11 aircraft and surpassing 10 million passengers carried. The announcement was made at a stakeholder event in Kampala, where the Uganda Association of Travel Agents (TUGATA) welcomed the airline’s return, anticipating new opportunities for trade, tourism, and travel between the two nations.
