Kabale District Council Elects New Standing Committee Chairpersons

The Kabale District Council convened its first session for the 2026/27 financial year, electing leaders for its crucial standing committees. These elections are a significant step in the council’s operational setup for the upcoming fiscal period.

Gilbert Niwanganyira, representing Butanda Sub-county, secured the position of Chairperson for the Production, Natural Resources and Works Committee. He garnered 19 votes, narrowly defeating his opponent, Collins Kahesi, the Male Workers’ Representative, who received 16 votes.

In the Health, Education, Sports and Community-Based Services Committee election, Joshua Musinguzi, the male councillor for Kyanamira Sub-county, emerged victorious with 18 votes. He overcame competition from four other candidates, including Edgar Atwogyeire and Gerald Tumushabe, who both received six votes, and Naome Nabowa, who secured five votes.

The Finance, Planning and Administration Committee will be led by Peace Rutarimara, the female councillor for Kamuganguzi Sub-county. She won her election against Nicholas Mucunguzi, the male councillor also representing Kamuganguzi Sub-county.

These newly elected chairpersons will now lead their respective committees, which are tasked with overseeing vital aspects of district administration and service delivery, ensuring efficient functioning across various sectors in Kabale District.
