Masindi Women Empowerment Centre Construction Kicks Off

The construction of a significant women empowerment centre has commenced in Masindi District, following its official launch by State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs, Grace Mary Mugasa. This project is the brainchild of Masindi Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Florence Asiimwe, and is designed to equip women and girls with essential vocational skills.
The centre, situated near the Masindi District headquarters, is envisioned as a hub for practical skills development and livelihood creation. Leaders at the launch emphasized that sustainable empowerment through skills is a more impactful approach than temporary aid.
Minister Mugasa lauded the initiative, stating that it represents the kind of lasting legacy leaders should strive to build. She commented that tangible projects benefiting entire communities are far more valuable than short-term handouts to individuals. “This has started, it will never be written off in Masindi, so most leaders need to do tangible things that will benefit our communities rather than individuals,” Mugasa stated.
Adding momentum to the project, President Yoweri Museveni has contributed Shs10 million towards its development. Dr. Asiimwe explained that the centre was inspired by her interactions with women during election campaigns, who often sought assistance. The facility aims to strengthen vocational training and provide a dedicated space for women to acquire skills and build sustainable livelihoods, extending their empowerment beyond her tenure.
The centre is planned to be constructed in phases, with an eventual goal of four floors. Dr. Asiimwe expressed hope that subsequent leaders would continue the development. Masindi District Chairman Patrick Owobusobozi pledged the district’s full support for the project, recognizing its potential to significantly improve the lives of women in the region.
