Museveni Honors Alex Mukulu's Enduring Impact on Ugandan Arts

President Yoweri Museveni has lauded the late Alex Mukulu, a prominent figure in Ugandan theatre, for his indelible mark on the nation’s creative industry. The President’s message, delivered by Minister Henry Tumukunde at Mukulu’s funeral, emphasized that Mukulu’s work will continue to shape Uganda’s cultural heritage.

Museveni described Mukulu’s passing as a profound loss not only to his family but to the entire cultural and creative sector, especially the theatre community where he was a guiding force. He highlighted Mukulu’s talent, discipline, and purposeful approach to his craft.

The President remarked that Mukulu’s artistic expressions, encompassing acting, writing, and performance, transcended mere entertainment. He asserted that such artistry plays a crucial role in preserving societal history, values, identity, and aspirations, ensuring their transmission to future generations.

Museveni encouraged Mukulu’s family to find solace in his extensive positive impact and the enduring artistic legacy he leaves behind. He stressed that while Mukulu’s physical presence is gone, his values, the individuals he mentored, and his artistic contributions will continue to resonate.

Furthermore, President Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing Uganda’s creative industry, viewing it as both a cultural treasure and an economic driver. He noted the sector’s importance in the National Development Plan Four, aiming to boost employment, wealth creation, and innovation.

Addressing young artists, Museveni implored them to emulate Mukulu’s integrity, faith, and spirit of service, advising them to measure success beyond fame and material wealth. He challenged them to build a professional and sustainable creative industry that significantly contributes to Uganda’s economic transformation.

As the nation bids farewell to Mukulu, the President called for a celebration of his life, creativity, mentorship, and service to Uganda, entrusting his soul to God.
