Nsujjumpolwe Residents Accuse KCCA of Dumping Stray Dogs with Garbage

Residents of Nsujjumpolwe Village, located in Muduuma Sub-county, Mpigi District, have voiced strong accusations against the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). They allege that KCCA is not only dumping garbage from the capital in their village but is also transporting stray dogs alongside the waste.

The village chairperson, Milliam Namukwaya, stated that the number of stray dogs has dramatically increased since KCCA began using the Nsujjumpolwe site for waste disposal. These dogs, ranging from adults to puppies, are reportedly roaming freely, attacking livestock, and causing property damage.

Previously, the village was peaceful with only a few managed domestic dogs. However, residents claim the influx of stray animals, which they believe are being deliberately released from garbage trucks, has created an untenable situation. “They bring us garbage and dogs,” one resident expressed, highlighting their frustration.

Namukwaya shared specific instances where garbage trucks were observed carrying dogs, even a mother dog with her puppies. The escalating presence of aggressive stray dogs has become a significant concern for both security and livelihoods, making villagers, especially in the evenings, feel unsafe.

The residents, who had previously accepted the waste dumping despite its drawbacks, are now drawing a line. They have issued a stern warning to KCCA, threatening to block access roads if the issue of stray dogs is not addressed. They are demanding that KCCA investigate the claims, take responsibility, and remove the dogs from Nsujjumpolwe.

At the time of reporting, KCCA had not yet responded to these allegations.
