Kabale Diocese Celebrates 60 Years with Ordination of 23 New Clergy

The Kabale Diocese has reached a momentous milestone, celebrating 60 years of its establishment with the ordination of thirteen priests and ten deacons. The significant occasion was combined with the Diocese’s annual Thanksgiving Day, drawing a large congregation of thousands of Christians, religious leaders, and government officials, including Finance Minister Henry Musasizi and Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi.

The solemn ordination Mass took place at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality. The service was led by the Apostolic Administrator of Kabale Diocese, the Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira. He delivered a powerful homily, urging the newly ordained clergy to embrace their sacred calling with unwavering faith and to serve without fear, doubt, or shame.

Rubaramira emphasized the profound responsibility that comes with the priesthood and diaconate: to proclaim the Gospel, nurture the faith of believers, and serve God’s people with dedication. Drawing parallels to the biblical Prophet Jeremiah, who initially expressed reservations about his mission, Rubaramira encouraged the new clergy not to be discouraged by challenges but to remain close to God, as this closeness would empower them to bear more spiritual fruit.

He also called upon all Christians to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and adhere to His teachings, highlighting that genuine service to God requires obedience. The anniversary celebrations provided a moment for reflection on the Diocese’s growth and its members’ commitment to spreading the Word of God and serving their communities.

During the event, the Diocese also honored individuals who have made significant contributions to its development over the past six decades, including bishops, priests, religious leaders, catechists, and lay faithful. Since its inception on April 17, 1966, Kabale Diocese has witnessed substantial progress in evangelization, vocations, education, healthcare, pastoral care, and social development.

Rubaramira acknowledged the legacy of past bishops, including Rt Rev Gervase Nkalanga, Rt Rev Barnabas Halem’Imana, and Rt Rev Robert Mary Gay. Following Rubaramira’s retirement on July 15, 2026, Pope Leo XIV appointed Msgr Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire as the fifth Bishop of Kabale Diocese. Rubaramira currently serves as Apostolic Administrator until the bishop-elect’s formal installation.
