Luwero Highway Horror: Three-Truck Collision Claims Two Lives

Tragedy struck the Kampala-Gulu highway in Luwero district early Saturday morning when a multi-truck collision claimed the lives of two men and left two others with injuries. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM in the Naluvule area and involved a white Fuso truck, a red Sino truck carrying sand, and a red Mercedes Actros.

Initial police reports suggest the Fuso truck, traveling from Kampala, collided with the stationary Mercedes Actros, which had reportedly broken down on the roadside. Tragically, one of the occupants of the Actros died as a result of this initial impact.

Further complicating the scene, the bright headlights of an oncoming Sino truck are believed to have played a role. The Sino truck driver, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, is reported to have swerved, causing their vehicle to overturn.

Two male passengers riding atop the sand cargo on the Sino truck were killed instantly. Two other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a local clinic for medical attention. The drivers of all three vehicles remain unidentified.

Police have launched an investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Luwero General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. While the Fuso truck has been taken to Luwero Police Station, the other two trucks remain at the scene, awaiting specialized towing services.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers present on Uganda’s roadways and the critical importance of proper vehicle maintenance and driver vigilance. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and contributing factors of this devastating collision.
