Ntungamo District Officer Anthony Kushaba Found Dead

Anthony Kushaba, 36, a communications officer for the Ntungamo District Local Government, was found dead in his rented accommodation on Friday. Kushaba, who also had a background as a journalist with Uganda Radio Network (URN), was discovered hours after spending an enjoyable evening with friends.

His colleagues raised the alarm when he failed to appear for work on Friday and could not be reached via phone. A concerned workmate, Eng. Prosper Butubuura, along with other colleagues, went to check on him. They found Kushaba’s room locked from the inside. After repeated attempts to get a response failed, they involved the landlady and eventually the police. Upon forcing the door open, Kushaba was found deceased on his bed.

Friends described Kushaba as being in good spirits the night before his death, sharing stories and engaging in lighthearted activities. He had reportedly been at a local pork joint with friends, where he appeared happy and engaged.

A postmortem examination conducted at Itojo Hospital suggested that Kushaba died from ruptured blood vessels, a condition doctors indicated prevented blood flow to the brain. There were no immediate indications linking his death to his brother’s legal work or exile.

Kushaba was known among his colleagues for his outspoken nature and his willingness to address workplace grievances. Florence Kisembo, an inventory officer, recalled him as someone who fought for their rights and was direct in his dealings. Kushaba, who previously worked as a journalist for URN and in radio, had served the Ntungamo District for approximately eight years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
