AK-47 Linked to Ntinda Shooting Found in Kira Demolition Site
Police in Wakiso have recovered an AK-47 rifle, suspected to be linked to a 2024 shooting in Ntinda, from a building in Kira. Law enforcement in Wakiso District has successfully retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle along with a significant quantity of ammunition. The discovery was made within a decaying building in Kijabijo Cell, Kira Municipality, which is currently slated for demolition.
Community members provided crucial intelligence to the police, leading officers to the abandoned weapon on Saturday, August 22. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, a team from Kasangati Police Station was promptly deployed to secure the location.
SP Kawala indicated that the building had a history of being occupied by individuals suspected of criminal activities. Significantly, one of the former occupants has been apprehended in connection with a shooting incident involving a mobile money attendant in Ntinda earlier this year.
The recovered AK-47 and its ammunition are now undergoing ballistic and forensic analysis. This examination aims to determine the firearm’s ownership and its potential involvement in other unsolved violent crimes.
Police are actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest any other individuals associated with the recovered weapon. This operation is part of broader efforts by the police to combat violent crime throughout the Kampala Metropolitan Area, which has recently seen intensified operations targeting armed robberies, leading to numerous arrests and subsequent court proceedings.
