Archbishop Kaziimba Honored by East Ruwenzori Diocese Ahead of Retirement

Hundreds of faithful from the East Ruwenzori Diocese convened at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Kamwenge District to bid a fond farewell to the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Most Rev. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu. His retirement comes as he reaches the mandatory age of 65, marking the end of an active service period.

During his final sermon, Archbishop Kaziimba implored the congregation to prioritize unity, cautioning against the divisive nature of tribalism and other societal rifts. “Unity is the foundation of a strong Church and a progressive society,” he stated, emphasizing the need for Christians to set aside their differences.

He also issued a call to action for Christians to intensify their efforts in combating poverty. Archbishop Kaziimba underscored the importance of education, urging parents to make it a top priority for their children as a crucial pathway to transforming communities and breaking the cycle of destitution.

Diocesan leaders, including Head of Laity Lay Canon Caleb Ahimbisibwe, lauded Kaziimba’s tenure, recognizing his significant contributions to the Church of Uganda’s growth. They specifically highlighted the completion of the Church of Uganda House as a major accomplishment during his leadership.

Ahimbisibwe remarked that the Archbishop’s dedicated service and leadership have left an indelible mark. “We shall continue to build on the foundation he has laid,” he assured, indicating that Kaziimba’s influence will continue to guide the Church.

The farewell event served as a moment not just to mark the closing of a chapter, but to celebrate a leader whose guidance on unity, education, and poverty alleviation has profoundly shaped the Church’s mission. Archbishop Kaziimba’s messages are expected to remain a cornerstone for the Church as it moves forward under new leadership.
