Buyende Police Investigate Traditional Healer's Murder, Body Found in Banana Plantation

Police in Buyende District are actively investigating the death of Elizabeth Namukose, a 56-year-old traditional healer whose remains were found buried in a shallow pit within a banana plantation in Bugaya Sub-county.

The grim discovery was made by Tom Isejja, the deceased’s nephew, who noticed dogs disturbing a piece of cloth near a pit behind the family home. A foul odor and the presence of flies led him and other community members to uncover the body.

According to police, preliminary findings suggest Namukose was killed on August 18, 2026, possibly as a result of a revenge attack. Her body was then partially concealed in the plantation. The incident was reported to Bugaya Police Station the same day.

Investigators have identified Aggrey Lubale, 40, Namukose’s cohabiting partner with whom she practiced traditional healing, as a person of interest. Police have stated that no arrests have been made yet, but efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Family members have pointed to a history of domestic disputes and financial disagreements as potential motives. Namukose’s daughter reported ongoing domestic violence, including an alleged attempted strangulation by Lubale, and a previous incident where he reportedly mixed poison into food intended for the family.

Disputes over the earnings from their healing practice are also cited as a source of conflict. It is alleged that Lubale demanded the majority of the money, claiming the role of household breadwinner, despite Namukose being the one with the recognized spiritual gifts.

Local leaders have urged for a swift resolution and justice for the victim. Following the exhumation, Namukose’s body was transported to Kamuli Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being released to her family for burial.
