The Kasana-Luweero Diocese celebrated a significant spiritual milestone this past Saturday as Bishop Lawrence Mukasa presided over the ordination of seven new priests and five deacons. The solemn ceremony took place at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Cathedral.
During his sermon, Bishop Mukasa implored the newly ordained clergy to embrace servant leadership and maintain unwavering integrity in their pastoral duties. “While at your respective areas of service, be at the service of the people and remain trustworthy,” he urged.
This year’s ordinations mark a substantial increase compared to 2025, when only one priest was ordained. The newly consecrated priests are Fr. Cyprian Kaliisa, Fr. Julius Luttamaguzi, Fr. Paul Wasswa Lubega, Fr. David Kato Nkugwe, Fr. Expedito Kisitu, Fr. Mathew Mulamira, and Fr. Hilary Tebuseeke. The five deacons are Pontian Ssegawa, Thomas Kibajjiro, Robert Mujjuzi, John Mary Osinde, and Peter Kato Matovu. Deacons typically serve for one year before progressing to priesthood.
Following their ordination, Bishop Mukasa immediately assigned the new priests to their pastoral roles. Fr. Paul Wasswa Lubega will serve as Assistant Parish Priest and Vocation Director at Kyegombwa Parish, also supporting Lwampanga Parish. Other assignments include Fr. Mathew Mulamira to Bugoobu, Fr. Hillary Tebuseeke to Kansiira, Fr. Cyprian Kaliisa to Katuugo, Fr. David Kato Nkugwe to Nakitoma, Fr. Julius Luttamaguzi to Mulajje Parish, and Fr. Expedito Kisitu to Kijjaguzo.
In addition to the clergy ordinations, the diocese also inaugurated seven new parishes: Wobulenzi, Kansiira, Katuugo, Kyegombwa, Nakitoma, Waluleeta, and Kazwama. This expansion increases the Kasana-Luweero Diocese’s total number of parishes to 32, serving the districts of Luweero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola.
