President Yoweri Museveni has expressed joy and gratitude during the consecration of his daughter, Patience Rwabwogo, as an episcopal bishop. The ceremony, held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, also provided an opportunity for the President to reflect on his family’s faith and recent personal events.
President Museveni extended his thanks to God for the recovery of First Lady Janet Museveni, who had recently experienced a health challenge. He specifically acknowledged the dedication of the medical staff and the unwavering support of his children – Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience, and Diana – who stood by their mother during her illness.
Delving into his family’s history, the President noted the relatively recent arrival of organized religions in their region compared to their long ancestral presence. He shared that he and his parents were the first in his immediate family to join the church in 1947, a significant departure from his forefathers. The presence of a bishop within his family now, he remarked, was a remarkable spiritual milestone, as they had never before produced even a catechist.
President Museveni confessed to being particularly impressed by his daughter’s deep understanding of scripture. Despite his own decades of biblical study, he admitted that Bishop Patience’s scholarly insights, revealed through her writings on intricate biblical genealogies and historical lines, surpassed his own knowledge. “This young person has really read the Bible much more than myself, I surrendered,” he confessed.
Concluding his address, President Museveni acknowledged visiting clergy and underscored the sermon’s emphasis on the importance of the Holy Spirit in spiritual leadership, stating that a bishop without it functions more as an administrator than a true spiritual guide. He expressed confidence that Bishop Patience would bring significant energy to her ministry.
